Inside Out – Art Exhibition at the

United Nation during the
WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY
New York: March 21 to 25th, 2018
Miami: March 28th to April 11th, 2018
In an unprecedented  work that unites art, education and courage, the exhibition INSIDE OUT arrives in
N.Y. at the UN and  at the Saphira and Ventura Art Gallery. In a traveling format, the artists will follow with their art to Miami highlighting the importance of not silencing controversial issues. Curator Jade Matarazzo and Brazilian photographer Nila Costa gathered images, texts and works that intend to break aesthetic and conceptual standards through the unique story of actress and activist Tathi Piancastelli.
At age 33, Tathi is the protagonist of this collection of great imagery that invites reflection on the many facets of a woman, through her body and expression and relationship with others. Inside Out wants to show literally, from the inside out, opposing sides like succumbing and emerging, giving up and conquering, weakness and strength, the oppression of intangible standards against the freedom to be yourself. The images created by the artists offer a world of reflections for those who are willing to look at completely unusually different angles.
Nila Costa’s photographic essay is joined by the works of award winner Jonatas Chimen, a Brazilian visual artist and academic based in Miami, who shows the power of the sacred feminine balanced between the allure of independence, of individuality, and the dynamics based on tradition. In this body of work Tathi represents the universal door for the surrender of new souls while also being the muse that withholds the power to influence the desires of  man. Manu Militão, also a Brazilian visual artist who lives in Brasilia, participates in this exhibition with beautiful drawings showing in his portraits the subtleties and details of those who see the world in its diversity but cannot be seen.
WhatsApp Image 2018-03-13 at 20.28.46 “With this project, I believe I’m   exposing the many facets of a woman,” says Tathi, who continues to pursue her mission with this amazing project. “I am a Down syndrome person, and my most striking quality is that I never give up, I always want more. I hope also to show that this group of adults , which I am a part of, have the potential to do anything they want, believe in their dreams and be able to fulfill them. “
What Tathi dreams she transforms into reality! With incredible energy and the support of family and friends, she became the first person in the world with Down syndrome to write and participate in a professional play with 10 other actors.
“With beautiful and daring images, Nila Costa, Jonatas Chimen and Manu Militão capture in their work the essence and strength of women often misunderstood and underestimated like most people living with a disability. “Inside Out seeks to take us on the road less traveled, it touches human relations, prejudices, beauty, fears and finally educates and enlightens the mind. “Says Jade Matarazzo.
“Our society still leads us to believe or face situations in which a person with Down syndrome cannot have full autonomy as if not able to be independent, questioning his or her decision to marry, his or her sexuality, the desire to form a family, that is , to realize small and so common dreams of human beings. I try to show this with the image “Judgment”, but what if these feelings and conceptions were turned upside down? What if there is no look of disapproval, debauchery, if no one else could impose limits, if there were no preconceived ideas?  In the photo “Emerge” , Thati represents to me what happens when a woman feels good about  herself and decides to become all that she can be and not what is decided for her to be.”- Nila Costa.
The project has the support of Atelier Without Borders, MetaSocial Institute, New York Pro Art Society,  Zaphira & Ventura Gallery, Permanent  Mission of  Brazil to the United Nations, Consulate General in New York City, Zola Films, Coco Bambu Miami, Studio D,  production of Liz Wood and designer of Imageria Leal.

– Celebração do Dia Internacional da síndrome de Down
New York: de 21 à 25/03/18
